Goodbye Chuck (2007-2012)

Well, as of January 27th, 2012 NBC’s hit Spy/Comedy show ‘Chuck’ has officially come to an end with a massive 2 hour (Chuck vs. Sarah and Chuck vs. the Goodbye) finale.

Over the past five years you have either liked the show Chuck, or you hated it. I, myself, liked it… a lot. I really enjoyed the show, even when it was going to get cancelled after season three, four and then possibly not even going to get a fifth season at all. I have been a fan of Chuck since mid-first season. Due to living in Australia. We don’t really get the same shows at the exact same time they have aired in the United States. So I really didn’t get the chance of season Chuck until the mid-first season.

Despite that little hurdle. Chuck has been a great show, i have been an avid follower since then, and i was even apart of the “SAVE CHUCK” campaign during the years it was actually going to get cancelled. But, nonetheless, it did last another three seasons ending with the fifth and final season this past Friday Night.

Chuck as a whole has had it’s up’s and down’s. It has had a total of 9 different timeslot changes in the past five years, with the fifth season having the horrible Friday night death slot. Much to the surprise of NBC, it still had it’s fanbase after all of the changes happening.

But i guess that’s enough about that, i would rather just talk about each season, and well, run down memory lane.

SEASON ONE

Season one of Chuck – just like any other television series is the pinnacle point of establishing your characters, and with a show that has four main characters to begin with, it can be kind of tricky. However, they did it quite well with Chuck. Also, you can’t forget the other major story of the Intersect. Which is a government server of vast encoded data connected to every intelligence agency in the United States, such as the Central Intelligence Agency, National Security Agency, and the National Clandestine Service.

SEASON TWO

Season two saw the addition of Chuck’s father Stephen J. Bartowski played by Scott Bakula and Ted Roark played by Chevy Chase, and the continuation of the story of the Intersect and what it exactly does. Stephen Bartowski was the one that pretty much created the whole Intersect, and put it inside of Chuck via a computer program. And Ted Roark is trying to kill Chuck, also. So you can see how it would be a difficult situation for the spy team of Sarah, Chuck and John. On top of all of that, their is also the addition of the organization; The Ring; who want to kill and steal the Intersect from out of Chuck, himself.

SEASON THREE

Season Three begins with Chuck finally becoming a spy, but firstly he needs to go through lots of training, which will put himself, friends and family in danger all at the same time. This season also has two new additions to the supporting cast. One being Brandon Routh as Daniel Shaw former spy turned villain to take the intersect away from Chuck, and Kristin Kreuk as Hannah; Chucks quick, and new love interest. This season had many good episodes. However, one of my favourites was the episode “Chuck Versus the Angel de la Muerte“. Which was an almost all John Casey episode. Also, in the conclusion of Season three, the run are stopped by Chuck, the Buy More blows up, and we get the funeral service of Chuck’s father. A fantastic ending to an excellent season of Chuck.

SEASON FOUR

Season Four begins with the CIA now taking control of the Buy More and using it has hidden headquarters for Chuck, Sarah, Morgan and Casey as spy’s. Various actors make supporting and major roles in this season – Linda Hamilton as Mary Elizabeth Bartowski, Timothy Dalton as Alexei Volkoff, Olivia Munn, Isaiah Mustafa, Stacy Keibler, and Summer Glau as “Greta”, Ray Wise as Riley, and Gary Cole as Jack Burton. This season mostly focuses on the life and times of Chuck, Sarah, Alexei Volkoff, Mary Bartowski and Vivian Volkoff. The Volkoff family are trying to control the Intersect now that it is in their position to take over the world. However, It is revealed that a person gives Chuck and Sarah almost a billion dollars. Chuck purchases the Buy More from the government’s front company, and he, Sarah, Casey, and Morgan Grimes (Joshua Gomez) set up their own freelance spy operation in Castle to investigate the conspiracy involving Chuck. Morgan then spots a pair of glasses in a box of Chuck’s belongings sent from Beckman. Morgan puts them on and accidentally uploads an Intersect.

SEASON FIVE

The fifth and final season of Chuck was a good one, in all honesty is would have to of been the greatest season since three and – even four. I really enjoyed those two seasons, especially when the show was at it’s pinnacle. This season and the finale two episodes really returned to it’s roots, it was really retro, featured old places, remarks, hints, idea,s and some other stuff. One of the major storylines was Sarah loosing her memory, ending the series finale with Chuck trying to make her remember on the same beach from the first season. It was a really, really, really, beautiful scene to end this great series. Not only that, but their was an awesome scene where Jeffster perform in-front of an orchestra which Morgan conducting, it was truly amazing.

with that said, it’s always a shame to see such a good show finally come to an end, sure the show could have ended earlier during Season Three or even Four, but, it honestly didn’t feel right, at all. The fact it ended with Season Five and the ending we got was just enough to end the series the appropriate way. I will miss this show, but i guess that’s what DVD’s, Blu-Ray’s and Downloading is for, right? And i’ll guess we will never get to see that all-musical episode the producers were planing.
